REMINDER: To get your event in This Week @Mars Hill College, put it on the Master Calendar and send any additional details to tbuckner@mhc.edu by FRIDAY of the week before it occurs.

All week:

  • Cadenza is accepting submission of written or artistic work from now until March 9th. Submissions should be e-mailed to cadenza@mhc.edu . Questions can be e-mailed to Dr. Boggess or Heather Lane.
  • The Writing Center is having a slogan contest. Slogans should be e-mailed to vbower@mhc.edu and be no more than 7 words. Entries are due by March 23; the winner receives $25 to the campus bookstore!
  • The Anime Club is hosting a contest to dress up a faculty or staff member for a day! Club members will have a table in Pittman dining hall Monday through Friday at lunch and dinner with individually labeled jars so you can drop money in as a way to vote for who you want to see dressed up.

  • Ethos meets each Monday at 5:00 in the small dining room in the Caf.

Tuesday, February 21

  • Crossroads, Broyhill Chapel, 11 am. Theme: LAA Character. Speaker: Reverend Nancy Hastings Sehested, a state prison chaplain in a maximum security prison for men in North Carolina.She is also a Co-pastor of the Circle of Mercy Congregation, an ecumenical church in Asheville, which is affiliated with both the United Church of Christ and the Alliance of Baptists.
  • Rotaract meeting , 5 pm in Redway. If you are interested in helping out the community, developing personal skills , and making new friends swing on by and check us out!
  • Join the Christian Student Movement for MERGE, each Tuesday evening in Timberline at 7 pm. Speaker: Josh Kappes
  • Intramural Volleyball in the Auxiliary Gym, 8 pm. Signups and schedules at the Outdoor Center.

Wednesday, February 22

  • blueprint meets every Wednesday in Bentley Fellowship Hall. Free coffee house from 6:30 until7:00 pm, and worship and small groups from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.
  • Movie: Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2, with Discussion, 7 pm, Belk Auditorium. Come and see how the worldwide phenomenon ends, and stay for a discussion about the film with faculty and Sigma Tau Delta members. Popcorn and drinks provided. Sponsored by Zeta Omega, the MHC chapter of Sigma Tau Delta,the International English Honor Society.

Thursday, February 23

  • SGA Mtg. 11 am, Belk Auditorium.
  • FREE Movie: Jack and Jill,8 pm in Moore Auditorium. Hosted by CAB. Family guy Jack Sadelstein (Adam Sandler) prepares for the annual event he dreads: the Thanksgiving visit of his twin sister, the needy and passive-aggressive Jill (Adam Sandler), who then refuses to leave. Free snacks
  • Scapino, Owen Theatre, 7:30. Scapino, a farce by Frank Dunlop and Jim Dale, loosely adapted from Moliere’s “‘’Les Fourberies de Scapin.’’ A wild, physical,breakneck-speed romp of two sets of lovers and a matchmaker with an idea and a scam every second to help them overcome their parents’ supposed opposition, SCAPINO will leave you limp with laughter. Tickets$10 adults; $8 students. MHC STUDENTS FREE TONIGHT.
  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes meets each Thursday evening at 8:00 pm in the blue lounge. Come worship God with us!
  • Intramural Volleyball in the Auxiliary Gym, 8 pm. Signups and schedules at the Outdoor Center.

Friday, February 24

  • Low Brass Retreat at Mars Hill College: All events are free and open to the public.
    • 2:30: a recital in Broyhill Chapel with George Curran, bass trombonist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Dr. Cory Mixdorf, professor of trombone at Georgia State University.
    • 7:30: in Moore Auditorium, a concert by the Mars Hill Wind Symphony.
  • Anime Club , Timberline,7 pm. Contact Dr. Marshall Angle for more information.
  • Scapino , Owen Theatre, 7:30. Tickets $10 adults; $8 students. MHC FACULTY/STAFF FREE TONIGHT.

Saturday, February 25

  • Low Brass Retreat continues…
    • 2:00 pm, in Broyhill Chapel, a recital by Dr. David Stern, euphonium and trombone professor at Anderson University and tubist AFC Bud Holmes from the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band.
    • 7:30 in Moore Auditorium, the Mars Hill Jazz Band will perform.
  • Scapino , Owen Theatre, 7:30. Tickets $10 adults; $8 students.

Sunday, February 26

  • Low Brass Retreat continues…
    • 2:00 pm, the Retreat Ensembles will perform in Broyhill Chapel.
  • Scapino , Owen Theatre, 2:30 pm matinee. Tickets $10 adults; $8 students; MHC STUDENTS FREE TODAY.
  • Black Student Association Meeting ,7:30 pm, Library Conference Room (take a right when you enter Library; beside the Reference section) . We welcome new members weekly!
